How We Got Here
As if I knew
“Not voting is how we got here.”
Maybe.
Or maybe we got here because for over a generation or two, we only got to “choose” our leaders from among a handful of pre-picked, corporate-sponsored candidates who fall into two categories:
1) People you’ve never heard of before outside their home state, rich and completely out of touch with reality.
Or
2) Has-been actors with no understanding of politics, how government works, or any concerns except becoming very rich and keeping themselves on television constantly.
Why are these the only categories? Who knows? Sure, in theory voting is better than not voting. But what difference does voting make when none of the candidates are acceptable?
We have third parties - allegedly. We never make it to fourth parties because newer parties are never allowed to establish themselves. The existing parties will fight any newcomer parties twice as hard as they fight each other. The press will deny them vital coverage. Information will be suppressed. Look how hard they tried to avoid Mamdani as mayor because he wouldn’t play ball and now he’s exposing all the bullshit reasons politicians “couldn’t work for us.”
We have write-in votes - allegedly. We could, in theory, start our own grassroots campaigns to elect people we think we know and can trust into positions of power. Of course, see above for what happens to candidates without the support of the corporate controlled press.
If and when we have free and fair elections again, no one is fucking guilting me for voting for candidates that aren’t openly evil supporters of the very hideously evil status quo.
Don’t get me wrong - democracy is a participation sport and probably ought to be mandatory - but it doesn’t make a bit of difference if the only candidates are “fuck you violently” and “fuck you brutally.” Any difference between the distinctions is purely coincidental.

Amen, brother. The “lesser of two evils” isn’t a great way to choose leaders.
What you've written answers your own question. The US has had a uniparty since at least Reagan. (If you had changed parties every time you voted since 1980 would it have made a difference? Voting 3rd party? Etc etc etc).
Project 2025 is responsible for ruin of the middle class, lifestyle of the average American and the economy. It started and has been implemented since the Reagan administration and Reaganomics was the beginning of a long term plan.
"In the winter of 1980, the fledging Heritage Foundation handed to President-elect
Ronald Reagan the inaugural Mandate for Leadership. This collective work by conservative thought leaders and former government hand—most of whom were not part of Heritage—set out policy prescriptions, agency by agency for the incoming President.
The book literally put the conservative movement and Reagan on the same page, and the revolution that followed might never have been, save for this band of committed and volunteer activists." (Project 2025 introduction) Note the phrase "revolution that followed ".
Trump was being promoted for the presidency during the 80's on television Regis Philbin Good Morning America and The Apprentice. MAGA was created by Christian televangelist. The citizens have been divided down to the family level by economic, social and philosophical (religious ) beliefs.
The Democrats have had multiple opportunities to repeal Reaganism and the transfer of wealth upwards under Reaganomics. The Democrats were unified under Clinton and Obama and did nothing to help the middle class which was obviously collapsing. In fact they assisted with the implementation of project 2025. Y2K under Clinton began the Internet mass surveillance network and Clinton was responsible for the economic collapse of 2008. This wiped out retirement IRAs began under Reagan, and transferred billions of dollars upwards.
Obama was a constitutional scholar who did nothing about the unconstitutional Patriot Act and removed Edward Snowdens citizenship for revealing the unconstitutional surveillance on us citizens. Americans have a constitutional right to bankruptcy and that right was eliminated exclusively for student loan borrowers under the Reagan administration along with usury interest rates, fees, fines and penalties (social security/wage attachment, loss of passport, cosigner prosecution federal and state tax refund confiscation). NAFTA began the elimination of manufacturing jobs with the signature of G.W. Bush and carried on a worsened (USMCA) under Clinton.
Obama and the unified Democrats did nothing to correct any of these. The minimum wage was never raised during Clinton or Obama.
These are just a few examples of the complicity of the two parties. A uniparty.
These are not failures of the democratic party. These are direct support for Project 2025. Voting has been useless since at least Reagan although my opinion is 1960 and the Kennedy assassination.
We've been led by the nose by both parties since Reagan. Voting is only for show. Corporations have been in control since the 60s. Voting isn't the problem. The voting SYSTEM is. Since the system is advantageous to the office holder it will never be changed. With the Internet major changes to the political system could be made to benefit "democracy" but the system is still running on a communication level of 1776. Imagine a bank doing the same.
